That isnt the reason I'm finally updating this (Crandpa gave me a shove). It does give me a chance to tell a birthday story though. Years ago we all went down to the Waterfront (a bar). It happened to be my birthday that night. It was a great night with lots of laughs and beers and drinks. Things were good. It was time to leave and we went out side. A guy with his work truck and girl were about to get their asses kicked for some reason by a bunch of dudes. The work guy was begging to get set free and he would take care of it a different day. He was more worried about his work truck than anything. I thought it would be a nice thing to do to help him get on his way. I drew the attention away from workman by saying stuff to the fight club. Workman peeled out showering all of us with mud puddle. The fight club was still pissed and I might have said something like "I will fight you assholes". Pretty much the rest I remember was getting drilled in the side of the head and they were drowning me in a huge shitty as november mudpuddle. Everyone thew down and got me out of there. Red drove us back to Crandall's and I was stinking so bad. I got back, said later and left right away.
It really was a bithday that I almost wish I don't remember. Brett is a 40 year old BMXer that has been traveling with some sort of circus for 15ish years. He probably won't be seen on the dew tour but he is definatly a BMX professional at what he does. The circus has been coming to our village since we moved here. During the day he goes to the kids school and they all line the halls as he flatlands down the school hall getting all the kids stoked. That by itself gets me stoked knowing BMX is in the school where my kids are. I can't help but think of the movie RAD when I picture him riding in the halls. Our kids come home from school shouting that Brett Marshall was ridng in the school like it was Bart Taylor or something.
Brett also does a BMX clown name Mr Pedalsworth. The people laugh and I think he does a good job at it. I don't know many "real" BMX clowns. At one point I know big Dave was making circus bikes for him. After the circus is over he and the tightrope walker have come out and ride with us at BIG JOB's old ramp. The tightrope walker didn't ride but he did run around the ramp like a squirrel doing flips off the walls.
I haven't updated for a while because nothing really unusual happened too recently. Like it or not Brett's act is definatly good and unusual. It was the farthest Benny has been from home. I was a bit nervous because I didn't want he or I to get hurt. I was mostly worried about me because I do get hurt and I had to drive us home, So I held back on the flip whips. We got to Rays at about 4 and rode straight till 10. That place could be one of the best places to ride a bike for anyone. After riding we got a hotel room (Benny's first). Im not sure what he was expecting but when we walked in the door he couldn't believe how small and smelly it was.
The next day we went to Akron and then to Chenga. Both those places were alot of fun and definatly worth going to. We left Chenga at 6 and I drove us straight home while Benny slept.
That was basiclly how the trip went but it was the first unforgettable trip for us. It was something new for us both. I was never taken anywhere as a kid BMXin. I have never taken our son on a trip like that. I'm sure it was the beginning of many to come.
Sorry if anyone was expecting flip whips instead of sappy father-son stories but if ya liked it thanks for checking.

Unadilla 07

Crandall, Kim, Joe and I went to unadilla. Dc shoes hooked us up with some tickets (thanks). We got there and right next to us was Keith Gower and Megan. The track was in geart shape. Unadilla is one of the best places to watch a motocross race. My father took us there in about 1974 for the first time. Some of the raziest fans are at Unadilla. Crandall ran into a bunch of kids that knew him. We were headingf back and a kid was stunting his bike down a hill off a pile of rocks jump I made him. Then it was "here let me show ya how its done". I started way higher and had way more beer in me. I did about a 25 foot endo to the head down it. After coming to from my KO I gave a big howl and we were out. In the traffic jam Crandall and Kim got out and hitched on other cars. We made a stop at a store and crandall made buds with a bunch of dominicans. Going to Unadilla is a for sure good time and this time was one to remember for us. I hope the pics make up for my crappy story. Thanks for checkin. Toast and dennis Tilton came. Toast is one of my best freinds and Dennis is my cousin. it was dennis's Bday so his wife bought him a weekend ticket up to ride with his bad influence cousin. I picked them up friday nite and we went home and had a old fashion 15 year old BMX kid sleep over exept we had beers and I pay for the house now. Saturday morning we got out early and went to the cheri lindsey park and track. Dennis got national 12 in the NBL in 89, 18x class and he still hauls alot of ass around a race track. Then it was off to the trails. Lots of dudes came. Uncle jeff (Big Job) raked and dug a old line up and Benny and Clint were riding it. That is worthy of the best weekend by itself to have my sons riding our trails with us. Idoits think it is funny to scare me with snakes. I'm the worlds biggest snake pussy. We rode untill dark or when we had enough and then made a great bomb fire. We had planned to jam on sunday but it was a 70% chance of rain. Since we have had every jam rained out for the last 3-4 years that meant 100% to us. We went for it anyhow sunday also after telling ourselfs we werent to tired and partied out. After a nice really good session we took it home. On monday my aunt had a party at her pond and we pond jumped a bike that was scarier to ride down the hill than jump, ate killer food, took dennis to the airport, got pie smashed in my face, clint caught his first fish and we got awsome sunburns. That weekend couldn't have worked out better ever. I know that was a bit long winded but it was all too good not to tell and this is my blahg. We all had a great time. The ridng pics of them are from practice. During their races I was too busy standing on the gate with them and then running my screaming head off down to the second corner. They didn't finish very well because I had them on their 16" bikes. Benny was getting so frustrated, he would pedal twice as much as the otheres in his class and they would end up catching and passing him.
I think we could have a couple fast little racers if I stopped the "just have fun crap". Drill the piss out of their bikes. Put clip pedals and shoes on them. Scream swear words at them while they are racing. And most important, spank the shit out of them if they don't win. If I can take the fun out of it then they will do much better.

It has been awsome outside. The trails are dialed. We have been riding them a ton. I went out to diner saturday night with my wife, I had rainbow trout that was killer. A local kid came over to my house with this old bike. It is a 1951 Firestone super cruiser that I put some motocross touches to. I ride it to the bus stop and around town to the stores and where ever else. I just got back from a awsome session at the trails (sunday night). Thanks for checking, next time will be better. There is a motorcycle junkyard/ barn near where I live. You can find any part from any type of cycle in there. It is a wonderland to be able to go there and poke around, especially with Kim. We found this old tank with a old FBM sticker. We grew up racing motocross and riding cycles, so there is alot of memories you see. Everytime you go there you see some interesting dudes. The chopper cowboy was there looking for some pipes.
By the way I was there looking for some cycle forks to put on a bike. I have been looking alot (Ebay) and haven't seen anything. We pulled up and there was exactly the forks I needed 5 feet from the van.

It isn't uncommon for him to ride 50 miles, stop and smoke one and turn around and ride back. Last sunday he rode up to cortland 30 miles from home. A car in the other lane turned and hit Kim. He said at the last second he just balled up and took the shot. He smashed the windsheild and popped it out and smashed the roof of the car in level. He said the car looked like a dead body fell off a building on it. Kim was scrapped up a little but the 19 year old dude driving was so freaked out he started crying and then started having seizures and hard to be taken to the hospital. Kim said the ambulance that came for him left with the dude in it. This picture of him with his bike was taken just about a hour after he was hit.
The picture of the jumps is the road line at bakers acres. It is my favorite line there. It dries out fast. Not very big deal about the jump pic. I'm just stoked it is trail season and Crandall and I have been digging a bunch lately. He was called Fancy Clancy Baker bicyclist extrodinaire. He did this loop on weekends in the early 1920's on a beach in new england somewhere. Clancy did the loop for 3 summers until the loop stunt was replaced by a horse that would jump off a 40 foot peir with a dog on it's back. Clancy rode around the farm doing flatland (it wasn't called flatland back then) once the loop stunt was replaced. It will be mostly about riding, old stories, my son pissing all over his hands or just a bunch of random stuff that happens to me.
Today I went over to HCS and rode. I think the ramp set up is the best it has ever been. Derek Nelson (the owner) showed me some laminated wooden pedals he has made and has been riding. I realize I'm no Rick Thorne but here are some pics from today. Thanks for checkin. Kelly
